Mississippi-born Steven Johnson is the grandson of Robert Johnson. Robert Johnson’s only recordings were produced by Don Law and Art Satherley of the American Record Corporation (Brunswick and Vocalion). The first half of Johnson’s songs were recorded at the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio in 1936 and the second half at 508 Park in Dallas in 1937. Johnson died in 1938. Johnson’s music was rereleased by Columbia in 1961 as “King of the Delta Blues Singers,” influencing musicians around the world. Steven returns to Dallas to celebrate and perform his grandfather’s music at 508 Park, the location where history was made.
